Roses Never Fade - s/t [CD]

Roses Never Fade is a multi-national folk-noir project spearheaded by Dwid Hellion (Integrity). Their debut was released in 2006 on Rock Vegas Records and has in the meantime sold-out. The album was mainly distributed through channels close to the hardcore/metal scene.

Neuropa Records is proud to reissue the album with the tracks from a limited 7" ep as an added bonus, and as such to introduce Roses Never Fade to the more folk-oriented audience.

Roses Never Fade accompanies the listener on a nightmarish excursion through 15 chilling tomes. Driven by a core of lushly layered acoustic guitars that swell to and fro while creating a cavernous wail that envelops the half whispered vocal textures. For fans of Integrity, Joy Division, Bauhaus, Tom Waits.

Wat vooral opvalt bij Roses Never Fade is het fantastische akoestische gitaarspel. Soms krijgt de akoestische gitaar het gezelschap van een elektrisch exemplaar. De zang is een soort fluisterzang die enigszins doet denken aan Lycia, maar kwaadaardiger. Het geheel heeft wel een beetje weg van bands als In My Rosary of Spiritual Front. Sterkste song vind ik 'Cauterize November', waarin de kwaadaardige fluisterzang haast koude rillingen bezorgt: 'Coward, coward'… Buitenbeentje is de song 'God Gone'; muziek en zang doen me hier eerder denken aan Jim Thirlwell (Foetus) of aan een soort experimentele metal. Op de laatste song 'The Man They Want To Hang' wordt de evil fluisterzang ingewisseld voor ‘normale’ zang en zien we dat de band ook in staat is tot de betere alternatieve rocksong. Mooi!
